General Information
Freshwater ecosystems can be found all around the world. The biome covers about 0.8% of the total water on Earth. The water in this biome has low salt concentration (only about 1%). The biome consists of low-lying open area land forms such as ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands. The temperatures reach from 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit in the Summer, and 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit in the Winter. The biome contain diverse plant and animal life. The animals that live in the freshwater biome cannot live in the ocean. There are some animals that have different species, such as the puffer fish, there are some puffer fish that are meant to live in freshwater, and some that are meant to live in saltwater. In freshwater ecosystems, the animals that live here would not be able to survive in the ocean. Such as alligators, alligator snapping turtles, and anacondas. They would not be able to survive in an ocean ecosystem. The ocean has higher salt concentration.
